Really great and heartfelt entry, Thalia. Thank you for sharing these pieces of yourself. I think you’ve touched on many of the type of meaningful familial/cultural reasons for being that are too often lacking in the New World. I think this is also a big part of the reason people in traditional settings with some habits that seem unhygienic by modern standards, can often still be healthy/not get sick—our bonds protect us, both metaphorically and literally—conversely, it’s pretty well established now even by science, that loneliness is deadly to us.
I don’t drink coffee myself, gives me arrhythmias.
Hey Nick-this is a great find. Interesting when they said ... "correlation frequently observed between income and life satisfaction is not universal"--I do think it does depend on the value system instilled in that culture, isn't it? In places where they don't place much weight on income-satisfaction, it doesn't always matter. But then seeming like in many other settings--it bears more weight?
Yes. I think that’s part of why even though people in North America still objectively have many consumer goods and things still compared to many places in the world, because inequality is great and people have little cultural or spiritual roots or support, they’re still very often unhappy and unhealthy. As a character says in the great 1984 film, Paris, Texas, “ Okay, one thing you must remember, to be a rich father, Señor Travis, you must look to the sky and never at the ground.”
Not too picky, as long as it’s not Starbucks’ lattes. Although admittedly, if there’s nothing else available, then Starbucks it is. 🤷🏻♀️ What do you think of Kopi Kenangan? Have you tried it?

Social values can lift you up or bury you.
Lovely read! I'm with you on this. If it's a hot coffee, I'd chug them before it gets to a room temp 😂
Yes and yes! Even when it’s *just* a little cool--nope 😂. What’s your favorite way of taking your coffee?
Black coffee drinker here, so I usually go for a pour over! But if I'm lazy... kopi tubruk will also do 😅. How about you?

Love Kopi Kenangan! Their kopi gula aren is one of the bests here. You should try it when you're in Indonesia!
Yes I heard they’re one of the best. What else should I try?
